How to make the best of your mistakes...

Just over 2 years ago I placed an order for our best-selling lay-flat notebooks, I was so excited to see them.... brand new designs and exciting new prints. Sadly when they
arrived my stomach dropped and I realised, that the “small alignment edit” I’d made, had in fact cost me the whole order. I’d managed to put the whole cover off centre and I was now the proud owner of hundreds of notebooks I couldn’t sell.
Whilst I’m sure I was more aware of the error than anyone, and perhaps I could have negotiated with customers, explained they were only ‘slightly off centre’.... the
perfectionist in me wouldn’t allow it and there they sat, for weeks and months untouched, but too precious to throw away.
Fast forward a few months, and I became aware of the work of Keep Collect, a box maker and book binder with exceptional craftsmanship and a keen eye for detail. Her work blew me away and an idea began to grow in my mind. We then spent weeks planning and plotting whether we could up-cycle our miss printed notebooks and create a luxurious, upgraded notebook from them. Cat, of Keep Collect, painstakingly extracted the miss printed covers, and then encased them each, by hand, with a hard-back, cloth cover.
We all make mistakes, but I believe it's what you make of, and learn, from your mistakes that helps us grow.
We’re soon to launch a new collection of up-cycled notebooks, that started out as one of my most costly mistakes in business so far. The collection is born from a refusal to waste and a passion for traditional book-binding craft.
Here’s how we made the most of our mistake...
It took me weeks to finalise my colours and decide the finer details, but now, we have managed to create a collection of books that I could not be more proud of. Taking my mistake and making something from it.
So, please set your clocks. This Friday, we will launch of Berlin, Portland, Oslo and Miami. Our 4 new up-cycled notebooks that are good enough to eat. To be first to get your hands on them (stock is limited) please ensure you are signed up to our newsletter.
The notebooks are also available personalised with monogrammed initials rather than 'Blank Canvas'
