Smith & Goat for Katie Leamon

The collection consists of three key objects that all share the same iconic scallop first seen in our collections back in 2012. We love to revisit accents from our collections and reinvent them so a scallop edge in concrete seemed like the perfect evolution and a lovely nod to earlier work.
Object I is a shallow dish, perfect for your paper clips, erasers and desk paraphernalia. It could also double up as an ink tray, pen stand, or plant dish.
Object II is a narrow pencil & brush pot. Ideally suited to house your favourite pens, pencils and brushes and will make your desk look super stylish.
Finally, Object III is a wider pot, ideal for plants, pens, paint brushes, and everything in between. The Objects collection are available in three colours all inspired by nature. The chalky nature of concrete gives the colours a perfect finish to suit our brand. We have a clay pink (my personal favourite) desert sand and sea flint. The pots all have a tangible quality and are a joy to handle.
I caught up with Amy & Reg - the founders of Smith and Goat to ask them some quick questions about their branding our debut collection…
Tell me a little bit about Smith & Goat…
SMITH & GOAT aka Reg and Amy usually consists of Reg in the studio covered in concrete and Amy running the business side in their Walthamstow Store. Founded in 2017, S&G was born out of a love for concrete and the discovery of what this natural material had to offer beyond its traditional uses. When the business started, in the Garden shed, Reg would often have help from his right-hand man Rob. Rob is often referred to as Goat which he claims stands for ‘Greatest of All Time’ – little does he know it’s because he looks like a Goat. So, this is where the name originates from, the Garden shed where (Reggie) Smith & Goat began their craft.
Why concrete….
After a career as a landscape gardener for Reg, and a love of concrete and its versatility, it was only a matter of time before the creative boundaries merged.
What's your favourite product you've made at Smith & Goat…
We would say our favourite item to date has to be the shell sink, we loved the entire process. From concept to completion this sink has brought us so much joy. Researching and sketching shapes, hand carving from wood and then casting in concrete, it looks beautiful cast in our concrete colours. Our favourites have to be Babe, Nellie’s Breath and Right on Lime.
What you liked about our Katie Leamon brand & aesthetic that made you happy to collaborate…
We love Katie’s craftsmanship, each card individually hand-printed to make them totally unique, something we totally appreciate at S&G. Katie Leamon is a family run business, much like ourselves and everything Katie stands for we back all the way, ethical and ecological. The products have a beautiful luxury feel and we love the contrast between the raw concrete and the clean simplicity. There was no doubt when Katie got in touch that we wanted to get involved in this collaboration.
What's your favourite item and colour from the collaboration…
Our favourite item from the Objects Collection is the Sea Flint pot. It’s a versatile piece that can also be used as a pen or make up brush pot or a little vase. It’s a great gift for any stationery lover, paired with a fancy pen and of course the perfect card.
We are so excited about the launch of our O B J E C T S collection in collaboration with our local concrete emporium; Smith & Goat. It came about following our desire to branch into desk accessories made from concrete - a material we have long adored. We use it in almost all our photoshoots and displays - its raw, unrefined quality and chalky pastel finish is what makes it perfect for the brands aesthetic and Smith & Goat have quickly become our favourites in the business…. plus, they just so happen to be based down the road.
