The Best Luxury Wrapping Paper: How to Choose Gift Wrap That Matches the Gift
Share
Most wrapping paper is chosen in approximately thirty seconds. You're at the till, the gift is already in a bag, and there's a rack of rolls nearby. You pick one that isn't completely wrong and move on.
The result is a gift that tells the recipient everything went into what's inside and nothing went into presenting it. Which is a shame, because the wrapping is the first thing they see.
This is a guide to luxury wrapping paper - what makes it worth buying, how to match it to the occasion, and how to put together a complete wrap that feels as considered as the gift beneath it.
What Makes Wrapping Paper Luxury
The difference between cheap wrapping paper and a good one is immediately obvious - and not just visually. It's in the weight of it, the way it folds, the way the design holds its colour when you crease it.
Paper weight and quality. Cheap wrapping paper is thin enough to tear on a sharp corner and translucent enough to show the shape of whatever is inside. Heavyweight paper - printed on FSC-certified stock - holds its shape when folded, creases cleanly, and feels substantial in the hand. This is the baseline for anything worth calling luxury.
Design that earns its place. A luxury wrapping paper has a design that works across the whole sheet - not a pattern that fades at the edges or a motif that repeats awkwardly. Our wrapping paper collection is designed in our North London studio with exactly this in mind: bold, considered patterns that look as good on the finished parcel as they do on the roll.
FSC-certified and recyclable. A card presented in cellophane wrapping tells you something about the values behind it. Paper that's sustainably sourced and fully recyclable tells you something different. All our wrapping paper is printed on FSC-certified recyclable paper - plastic-free, as everything we make has been since 2020.
How to Match the Paper to the Occasion
Not every gift calls for the same wrap. The paper you choose sets a tone before the gift is even opened.
For birthdays. Bold, illustrated designs work well here - something with colour and personality that signals celebration from the moment it lands on a table. Our gift wrap collection includes designs that range from the quietly graphic to the genuinely joyful, most of them double-sided so you have two options within a single sheet.
For weddings and anniversaries. The occasion calls for something more considered - a design with elegance rather than exuberance. Softer patterns, refined palettes, the kind of wrap that complements a beautiful card rather than competing with it.
For Christmas. Christmas wrapping paper is a category of its own. Our Christmas gift wrapping collection uses the same design sensibility as the rest of the range - considered, beautiful, and distinctive enough that it doesn't look like everything else under the tree. Double-sided sheets mean you can use both sides, or mix them for parcels that coordinate without matching exactly.
For something with no particular occasion. A thoughtful gift sent for no specific reason often deserves the most careful wrapping of all - because the gesture is the thing. A beautiful paper in a pattern you know the recipient will love is part of the message.

The Complete Wrap
Paper alone rarely finishes a gift properly. The details around it - ribbon, tags, the way it's tied - are what elevate a well-wrapped parcel into something genuinely special.
Ribbon. Our ribbon collection is sourced from Studio Carta, an Italian design house that specialises in the kind of ribbon most people have never encountered outside a particularly good gift shop. Wide cotton ribbon in muted, considered colours - dusty pink, sage, hazelnut, cornflower blue - ties in a bow that holds its shape and adds something to the parcel rather than just sitting on top of it.
The card. A beautifully wrapped gift with a generic card is a missed opportunity. The card is what the recipient keeps. It deserves the same thought as everything else.
Double-sided sheets. Most of our wrapping paper is double-sided, which means the inside of the paper is as designed as the outside. This is worth knowing when you're folding corners - turning a flap to show the reverse adds a small detail that most people notice without knowing quite why.
A Note on Sustainability
Wrapping paper gets unwrapped once and usually thrown away within the hour. This is a reasonable argument for not spending much on it - or it's an argument for choosing paper that's recyclable and printed on sustainably sourced stock, so the environmental cost of that single use is as low as it can be.
All our wrapping paper is FSC-certified, fully recyclable, and completely plastic-free. The ribbon is cotton. There's no cellophane, no glitter coating, nothing that ends up in landfill when the paper comes off.
