A few months ago, Teatum Jones, A London based luxury fashion label, asked Katie to take part in their study - Global Womanhood, by answering three questions about her most intense moments of joy, sadness, and hope. Katie and the other women in this collective are all from different backgrounds, different ages, and different ethnicities. In spite of their differences, they are all united by the fact they all experience these intense moments. This is Global Womanhood.

We were invited down to the BFC Showspace on the final day of London Fashion Week, to watch the runway show and the premiere of 'Global Womanhood'.

Afterwards, we caught up with Katie & Catherine Teatum to talk about the 'Global Womanhood' concept and their thoughts on the future.

What does Global Womanhood mean to you?

Catherine: It means having a conscious awareness that in spite of our differences as women all over the world we are all united by similar experiences that involve moments of joy, sadness and hope. It's an awareness that this is a bond that should unite us in order to support other women of different social backgrounds, different ages and different ethnicities. Clothing and fashion are powerful mediums that deliver messages and support our identity. The Global Womanhood collection is about delivering that message.

Katie: It’s about standing together and uniting in a common theme - empowering women and embracing their capabilities, strengths and celebrating all our shared human emotions.

What is Womanhood in three words?

Catherine: Strength. Vulnerability. United.

Katie: Empowerment. Strong. Togetherness.

What is next for Global Womanhood?

Catherine: We are soon holding a screening of the AW18 Global Womanhood film and an exhibition of the portraits of all the 25 females in the collective. The host for this event is the All Bright, Club which is the recently launched first female only members club set up to support female entrepreneurs. We will also be travelling to Rwanda with the British Council later this year to hold a workshop for young female designers who are trying to establish their fashion start up businesses. We will be talking about the strength of human stories to creative collections and the power of their fashion collections as vehicles for pro-social messaging.

Katie: It’s an exciting time to be a woman and to be sharing our individual stories that unite us all. It’s a time where people are celebrating women and their strengths and I think it’s a movement that’s only going to gain momentum in the fight for equality, respect and greater awareness.

What is next for Teatum Jones & Katie Leamon?

Catherine: We would love to work with Katie Leamon on projects that bring together our brands' similar core DNA; creating beautiful, luxurious product that's made in England with a lot of love, care and integrity. It would be exciting to fuse our love of bold graphic textiles with Katie Leamon's tongue in cheek stationary slogans... we see some beautiful slogan t-shirt dresses and sweatshirts on the horizon...!

Katie: We have some exciting ideas up our sleeves including a potential t shirt collaboration, but won’t say any more than that for now.

And Catherine, why did you choose Katie?

Catherine: She's an example of a courageous, strong, kind, honest woman. She's an entrepreneur who's gone out and worked hard for what she believed in and stayed true to her core values - and she's basically fucking awesome and a bit of a babe!
